What our students say

Pastors, missionaries, engineers, and workers — learning to read the Scriptures in their original words.

I went from knowing words and slowly translating sentences to thinking, hearing, and speaking Biblical Hebrew — without constantly translating in my head or reaching for a book. Anyone with even a small desire to learn a biblical language should put in the time with Lingua Deo Gloria.

An amazing opportunity to learn New Testament Greek with outstanding teachers who love Jesus — Scott is kind and patient when we make mistakes, and prays in Greek at the beginning of each lesson. You will need to set aside a large amount of time to study.
Carol SaiaFormer missionary · Lynnwood, Washington
I had tried to self-study Biblical Hebrew before, and I loved the idea of learning it as a living language. The teaching and content are incredible, and Scott brings the language to life in a way that is so motivating.

I loved the live classes — small, interactive, and being actually called on to do the exercises together. In twelve weeks I can now read Hebrew, and it is already deepening my study and enriching my worship.

I decided to study Greek to understand the Bible better. The videos with Greek captions help — I cannot always tell the sounds apart — and now I understand more sentences, with a more instinctive knowledge of the cases.

What I enjoyed most was reading Hebrew aloud — something I might not do studying alone. The instructor even taught us to pray in Hebrew, and now I can gradually read and speak.

I feel a loving connection with the teachers. In a live class it is easy to raise a hand and ask on the spot — when I study alone, my questions leave my mind before I can ask anyone.

I wanted to read and sing Scripture in the original language. Singing the Hebrew at the beginning of class — the psalms especially — was what I enjoyed most, and Sawyer was a true blessing to study under; I appreciated his encouragement when I was wrestling through topics and grammatical constructs. I would encourage others to take as many Hebrew and Greek classes as possible.

My son recommended it as he is also in classes. I enjoy having accountability, listening to others, the teachers’ sense of humor. Reading the psalms in Hebrew on my own, using it as a meditative time — the small amount I now know is very helpful, and I’ve only completed level 2. Don’t be afraid, try not to compare with others who learn faster or better. Just go on the journey and enjoy His words!

I already spoke Modern Hebrew, but I wanted to read the Hebrew of the Bible, which is different in many ways. It has been a huge blessing to open my Bible and read it in its original language. Ben Eisenberg makes class fun with songs, quizzes and games, and is endlessly patient with our questions.

I first learned Hebrew in a pre-seminary program, and the difference here is the methodology — I am actually retaining it, unlike the rote strategy I had in college. After about a year my comprehension is far better than after two years in a formal academic setting. Ezra's interest in biblical studies shines through every session.

I tried a seminary for four years, then studied on my own, and did not make much progress until I began with Lingua Deo Gloria a year ago — Hebrew first, and now Greek as well. The conversational approach, in a class of about six, helps me internalize the language far better than grammar and translation ever did.

We use Greek throughout the lessons, and yet I understand without stress. During one lesson my teacher asked me to read a passage aloud and then questioned me about it in Greek — I could calmly find the answers directly in the text. That was a wonderful moment.
